Austin's Mission packet arrived June 5, 2008. His mission call was to Utah Salt Lake City South. His dad was reading over Austin's shoulder at the same time and was showing his disappointment. We were ALL disappointed.
But as it turns out, it appears to be a hopping mission. The Jarman's from our ward have a grandson in the same mission. They have forwarded a couple of letters and some cool photos. Missionaries golfing in lava lavas. They are teaching a man from Hawaii, who loves to golf.
Also a Raleigh temple worker has a granddaughter in this mission and after initial adjustment, finds it a wonderful place to be. This same temple worker has a grandson in South America and also a grandson in Hungary. Together they determined if you go to South America, you learn Spanish (or another language), if you go to Hungary you learn humility and if you go to Salt Lake, you learn the gospel.Austin has a 1st cousin in his mission area. I have heard that her husband Aaron, is the Ward Mission Leader. And very soon, Erica's mom and dad will return from Cape Verde, their 3rd mission. It is not guarranted Austin will see his family, but it's nice to know they are close by.
Austin attended the Raleigh North Carolina Temple with mom and dad, August 6, 2008. Grandfather and Grandmother Harper, Aunt Sheryl and Uncle Mark and Aunt Barbara attended.at Raleigh Temple
08-17-2008 Just a few days before he leaves, family comes to listen to Austin talk at church. We came back to our home, took a quick photo, had a meal and did a great deal of talking.

Austin's friends from UNCW. This is a photo from spring 2008. I wanted it to represent having a meal with Austin and friends on August 19. Kaeli was not with us when Danny and I took the guys to Olive Garden at which time I did not take a new photo. :(
This is 4:45 AM. Maybe that is the reason we are standing in the wrong line.
Got in the right line and things started moving. Here's Austin showing me "See, no hole mom!"
I am getting a look from the security guy. But he didn't say anything! to me!
Danny and I were looking out the observation area hopping when Austin came through he would turn around and wave. But he didn't so I didn't include those shots.

Danny was tring to get me to take the picture before they turned the headlights on. I think the light creates the focus of the photo. The plane is heading into very dense fog. Danny and I were going to stay and watch it take off. We couldn't see it at all. Not any kind of lights. Just the engine sounds coming from the fog. Twas a little frustrating.
This photo came in the mail Saturday 25th of August. There was a very short note explaining some volunteers are there to take photos of the nissionionaries as they enter the MTC, then send the photos to the missionaries parents. This was such an act of kindness. It was the most cheerful time in the Waller household since Austin left.

Very nice job. It looks like you have the hang of posting. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi Diane - Congrats on Austin's call! My cousin served in Provo and was also disappointed at first but turned out to love it. He never had to worry about not being fed and since there are so many members in Utah he & his companions were always being looked out for. At the grocery store members would be their whole cart of groceries even!
Nice Blog Danny & Di-- I know Austin is going to love his mission and he will grow so much from the service. We are sitting in themission home just waiting till we can climb on theplane home. I am looking forward to our visit and seeing you both again. Sharon is excited about the grandaugthers ( so am I). so see you soon. Chuck
Wow! Congratulations to Austin! He is going to have so much fun and learn so much on his mission!! This is awesome that you have a blog. =0) Hope you can check ours out! I put lots up of Gabby! Which one do you use the most? This blog or the one called "Waller Family"? =0)
